Lela Dallas Payne Taylor, 85, died March 8, 2014 in Loa. She was born July 13, 1928, in Koosharem, a daughter of Harry Lamont and Eva Orelia Torgerson Payne. She married Van Gross Taylor, June 12, 1947 in Fremont, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple, February 12, 1960. Van preceded her in death, January 5, 2006.

Lela was a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Primary, Young Women, Relief Society and Sunday School. She was a lifetime visiting teacher. Lela was an active member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp Geyser.

Lela loved to cook, sew and garden. She was an excellent homemaker, wife, mother and a very special grandmother and great-grandmother. She took great pride in her home and her family. Her door was always open and there were always cookies or brownies waiting.

Lela is survived by her children: Valynn and Ron Huffaker, Ephraim; Rodney and JoAnn Taylor, Gunnison; DeMar and Misako Taylor, Torrey; Corinne and Wesley Jensen, Torrey; and Teena and Jim Tolbert, Salem; 20 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Karon Williams Wilson, Castle Dale; Shauna Lee Leslie, Enoch; and brother Val Payne, Cleveland.

She is also preceded in death by parents; brothers Harold T. Payne, Jerry Lamar Payne, Warren Payne; and sisters: Eva Lillian Underwood, and Evalynn Payne.


Funeral Services will be held Thursday, March 13th at 1 p.m. in the Fremont LDS Ward Chapel where friends may call Wednesday, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Thrusday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Fremont Cemetery.
