Pioneer Citizen Taken By Death.----Mr. Thomas F. Layfield, pioneer citizen of Butler, Died at his residence Sunday morning at 11:15, having been in feeble health for about two years. He was born in this county in July 1842 and was therefore in the 86th year of his age, and spent his entire life here as a prominent and most valued citizen.
Mr. Layfield was the father of Captain E.R. Layfield of Macon, one of the most reliable Passenger train conductors of the southwestern division of the Central railroad, who with his family wee at the bedside when the end came, his weakened condition having caused apprehension of a crisis several days previous.
For more than forty years, Mr Layfield was a valued employee of the Central railroad as section foreman, and was later elected Treasurer of Taylor County which office he held until by legislative enactment that office was abolished.
