Edison R. "Ed" Capps, USAF Retired, 82, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Elizabeth House.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. He was preceded in death by his parents; Clyde and Mae Ballard Capps, and a brother; Denver Capps.

Edison retired from the U.S. Air Force serving 23 years in Germany and Japan and the Canal Zone during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Maintenance Missile Man of the Year Award in 1964. After retiring Ed had served as Maintenance Supervisor for Henderson County for 14 years, was a Transport Officer for the Henderson County Sheriffs Office for 4 years and owned and operated Crab Creek Grocery.

He was "Prayer Warrior" and a deacon of Mtn. Home Baptist Church and a Master Mason.

Surviving is his loving wife of 58 years, Lula Belle Williams "Lou" Capps, two sons; Albert Thomas Capps and his wife Leny of Concord, NC and Thomas Edison Capps and his wife Marlene of Kings Mountain, NC, a sister; Lou Nelson of Hendersonville, a sister in-law; Estelle Capps wife of Denver Capps; seven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, March 9th at Mtn. Home Baptist Church with Rev. Craig Garren officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force and Masonic Rites conducted by the Hendersonville Kedron Lodge #387.
