Mr. Willoughby, age 83 of Toone, passed away Saturday morning, March 1, 2014 at his home.

The husband of Jeanette Thearp Willoughby, who survives, he worked as a driver for Cordova Concrete Company for 12 years prior to retiring. He also had worked at the Kilgore plant and was an avid outdoors workman, enjoying driving a tractor and working with hay. He was born December 28, 1930 in Hardeman County, son of the late Lawrence Edward Willoughby and Eula Bell Tippitt Willoughby and lived all of his life here. He was a veteran of the US Army and veteran of the Korean Conflict with the Tennessee National Guard. He also served as caretaker of Rainey Cemetery for 10 years. Mr. Willoughby was a member of Toone Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife, whom he married on February 1, 1964, survivors include two daughters, Peggy Brotherton (Greg) of Water Valley, MS and Denise Johnson and her fiance, Lee Patterson of Bolivar; a son, Elvin D. Willoughby, Jr. (Phyllis) of Henderson; 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Judy Howell; two sisters, Marion Villines and Francis Nuckolls; two brothers, Curtis and Frank Willoughby; and two step brothers, Leo and Willard Smith. The family requests memorials be directed to Hospice of West Tennessee.
