William Ernest McCoy was born July 15, 1891 in Moody, TX, the son of William Henry and Marietta Halliburton McCoy. Surviving siblings included Mrs. Ivo Manson and Mrs. Lizzie Barnett, both of Murphysboro; Mrs. Iona Jones of Pocahontas, AR; Mrs. Ava Ford of Peoria; and Mrs. Hallie Franco of Los Angeles, CA. Three sisters preceded him in death.

He married Elizabeth Manson; she died October 14, 1929. He later married Gladys Spencer on February 24, 1936 in Cape Girardeau, MO. She survived as did children, Mrs. Pauline Bishop of Troy; Mrs. Juanita Jacobs of Granite City; Mrs. Jacqueline Tuck of Whittier, CA; and William Jr. of Florissant, MO. Also surviving was a stepdaughter, Mrs. Mary Gladys Lopes of Brookland, MI.

Mr. McCoy was a former Murphysboro police officer. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Murphysboro, the Eagles Lodge and the Illinois Police Association.

William McCoy died at the age of 77 on Saturday, March 22, 1969 at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI. His funeral service was held at Meyer-Denny Funeral Home in Murphysboro. Rev. Lee Pope Ward officiated.
