On August 5th, I saw this little, scrawny, hairless puppy walking slowly by my yard and I called to it. The puppy walked over and laid down beneath the front bumper of my car and just looked up at me with these huge brown eyes as though to say, "Please help me." He grabbed hold of my heart and never let go.

After looking this little guy over (he was practically hairless), I found he was loaded with fleas and ticks and literally skin and bones. I fed him first, got rid of the fleas and ticks, then put him in the car and took him to my vet.

The vet estimated that the puppy was about five months old and suffering from malnutrition, which was one of the reasons he was so small. I had to guess at his birthday. My vet also told me that from the looks of the puppy's teeth, he'd had distemper before birth and he told me there was a possibility that the puppy could come down with the disease again, and I would be taking a chance if I kept him. I told him I didn't care, I wasn't going to throw him away because he had already been thrown away once. The vet gave the puppy the shots he needed and I took him home. I have never regretted that decision.

Laddie was a playful, loving, very sweet dog and a wonderful pal and companion. Unfortunately, my fur baby died, not from distemper, but from a tumor around his heart. His urn is in my living room where he can oversee all the happenings.

Over the years, I've had a lot of companions and I do love and miss them all, but I know I'll eventually see them again. I have been very blessed to have had so many loving fur babies in my life.
