Born in Plains Township, he was the son of the late Max L. and Rose Ecker Grossman. A graduate of Plains High School, he was employed as a furniture salesman for Peoples & American Furniture Companies.
Herb served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in front-line action, and was the recipient of the Silver Star, Purple Heart, Pacific Theater Medal with one Bronze Star, and three battle stars.
Mr. Grossman was a member of Congregation Ohav Zedek, Masons; past commander of the Jewish War Veterans; life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars; and member of the Jewish Community Center and its men's club.
Surviving are a son, Robert, Key West, Fla.; a daughter, Judy Horn and her husband, Michael, Lakeworth, Fla.; sisters Surilla Aqua, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Pearl Kornblau, Margate, N.J.; brothers Bernard, Lake Worth, Fla.; Asher, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Milton, Yonkers, N.Y.; and five loving grandchildren, Kevin Horn, Lakeworth, Fla.; Amy Horn, Washington. D.C.; Stacey Horn, New York City; Shana Grossman and Marli Grossman, both of Jacksonville, Fla.
Herb was preceded in death by his beloved wife, the former Phyllis Gross; brothers, Abner, Emanuel, Jerome and Seymour.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Rosenberg Funeral Chapel, 348 S. River St., Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Meir Rosenberg officiating. Interment will be in Ohav Zedek Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Shiva will be observed from 7 to 9 Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday in Herb's home, 140 N. Dawes Ave. Kingston.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made in Herb's name to donor's favorite charity.
