Born Margrét Jónína Markúsdóttir in Vestmannaeyjar, Vestmanneyjasysla, (Westman Island) Iceland. At 6 years old, she left Iceland with her parents (Markús Vigfússon 34 and Guðríður Johnson 28), maternal grandmother (Valgerður JÓNSDÓTTIR 48) and 3-year old sister (Sigríður Ingibjörg Markúsdóttir). Her 16 month old brother Valdimar Einer Markússon Johnson died enroute.

They sailed from Iceland to Liverpool where they boarded the SS Alaska and sailed from Liverpool to New York July 10-18 July 1886, eventually settling in Spanish Fork, UT. She was baptized 6 Sep 1888 into the LDS Church.

She married fellow Icelander Edward Olson aka Eggert Gudmunder Ólafsson on 13 Dec 1895 in Spanish Fork, Utah, UT. Together they had 8 children.

She died 6 Feb 1925 in Spanish Fork, Utah, UT of bronchitis, a complication from an accident (auto vs horse carriage). She is buried in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery with her husband and 2 of her children.
