m. c1918, Chris Phillip Johnston, b. April 1898, at Fair Heaven, Sterns Co. Minnesota. His parents were Aaron C. Johnston, Jr. & Estella Randall, of Waukon, Allamakee co., Iowa. Chris was a granite polisher, and worked for one of the many monument companies in St. Cloud, Minnesota. During the depression, work was getting harder to find so the family moved to Hibbing, Minnesota and then by train to Elberton, Georgia, which was also noted for granite production.
In 1930, Pauline took sick and she returned with her children by train, to St. Cloud, Minnesota. Back in St. Cloud, Pauline was suffering from a fall while hanging up some curtains, and developed a tumor on the brain and in a short time she lost her sight. She died at the home of her mother at the age of 31 years.
