Born September 16, 1918, in Lawrence County, he was the son of William and Myrtle (Fields) Lynch. He married Lucy Edith Cooper November 29, 1940, and she preceded him in death May 11, 2006. John was a retired farmer and Mitchell Community Schools bus driver for 28 years. He graduated from Mitchell High School in 1937 and was a member of the First Christian Church. He had worked at Farm Bureau Co-Op and was a member of the Sheeks Cemetery Association, Lawrence County Farm Bureau, Mitchell Community Schools Holding Corporation, and past director and board member of the Marion Township Rural Fire Department.
Survivors include his sons, Michael L. (Judy) Lynch, Manhattan, Kansas, Phillip R. (Cindy) Lynch, Mitchell; daughters, Patricia (Bob) Freeman, Santa Maria, California, Kathy M. Tolliver, Bedford; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren.
His parents; wife; brothers, Kenneth Albert Lynch, George William Lynch, and Joseph David Lynch; and young sister, Laura Mary Lynch, preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 22, at the First Christian Church with Reverend Kevin Giggy officiating. Burial will be in Sheeks Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Chastain Funeral Home & Cremation Center and from 10 a.m. until the service on Saturday at the church.
