Our beloved and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Norma Ruth Evans Hammerstrom Bawden, passed away at the age of eighty-six on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 in Orem due to complications of Alzheimer's Disease. She was a constant source of encouragement, joy, and strength to all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

She was born in Venice, California on December 19, 1927 to Claude and Grace Evans. She had one brother, Walter, who passed away at the age of six due to a drowning accident. She graduated from Venice High School along with many dear friends whom she remained close to throughout her life.

She then married Thomas August Hammerstrom in Santa Monica, California. They were blessed with five children and continued to reside in Southern California until their eventual move to Provo. After forty-three years of marriage and with their sealing in 1955 in the Idaho Falls Temple, her eternal companion passed away.

She then married Reuel J. Bawden in July of 1996. They enjoyed many years of provident living, traveling to the Holy Lands, a church history tour and several other places of interest until his passing in January of 2011.

Norma lived a vital precious life filled with devotion to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She served faithfully in presidencies of the Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as serving two Stake Missions. She was a temple worker in the Los Angeles, St. George, and Jordan River temples for many years. She loved doing genealogy, completing the work for hundreds of deceased ancestors.

Gardening, sewing, crocheting, and reading were just some of her hobbies.

Even though we will miss our mother dearly, we are comforted in the knowledge that our separation will be short and that our eternal family will live on.

She is survived by her son, Thomas (Marylee); daughters, Robin Boswell, Joan (Kim) Turner, and Jan (Boyd) Wilkins; and foster son, David (Nancy) Morgan. She has twenty-four grandchildren, fifty-seven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Hammerstrom and Reuel (RJ) Bawden; son, Donald; and two grandchildren, Scott and Kaci.

A special thanks goes to all those who tenderly cared for our mother at the Canyon Breeze Senior Living Center in Orem.
