Richard was born in Russell Gulch Colorado in 1903. He was the son of Richard Tudor Hughes and Catherine Carrie Joyce Hughes. Richard was the 3rd. child out of six. Four sisters and the two boys. The Hughes family lived in Russell Gulch until sometime between 1920 and 1920 when they moved to the small town of Arvada CO, just west of Denver. In 1938 he married Agnes Ella Shackley who was a elementary school. Dick and Agnes had no children. In later life they both lived with Agnes' brother. Agnes and Richard are buried together.
