Robert Lee Nelson, 83, of Marinette, WI passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014, at home. He was born on March 16, 1930, with his twin brother, Roland, to the late Oscar and Beatrice (Harris) Nelson in Oconto, WI.
He graduated from Peshtigo High School in 1948, where he played basketball and football. Following school he ran Nelson Standard Service and then worked at George Menor's Service Station. He left there to join the Marinette Police Department for 10 years, retiring from Giddings and Lewis in Menominee, MI.
On July 30, 1949, Robert married Lorraine Baribeau at St. Joseph's Church in Marinette. He enjoyed his retirement in Texas where he played a lot of shuffleboard.
Robert is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lorraine;
two sons: Wayne (Venessa) Nelson of Bellefontaine, Ohio and David (Barbara) Nelson of Peshtigo, WI;
three daughters: Nancy Sallee (Nancy Benchley)of Menominee, MI; Linda O'Leary (Ken O'Leary) of Valdars, WI and Donna (Mark) Stanke of Marinette, WI;
a half-brother, Johnny (Linda) Behnke;
brother-in-law, Francis Baribeau;
sister-in-law, Florence Beland;
nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father Louie Behnke; brother Roland Nelson; sister Doris McBride; half-brother Dale Behnke; step-brother Laverne Behnke; step-sister Winnie Thompson; and sister-in-law Eve Baribeau.
Friends may call at the Thielen Funeral Home on Saturday, February 15, 2014, from 11 a.m. until time of service. Funeral Services will be at 12 noon with Deacon Vince Beckley officiating.
