The original grave is at Old Macedonia Cemetery (supposedly).
Son of Notley Masters, Revolutionary War soldier in Pendleton Dist., S.C.

George Washington Masters moved from Anderson County (then Pendleton District), South Carolina about 1850 to the Sand Mountain region of Dekalb County, Alabama, with his wife "Sally" Burris. They settled on 120 acres near what is now the Hopewell Community, comprised of three contiguous 40-acre tracts, one of which included the forty acres where the Dalrymple Cemetery is situated (NW 1/4 of SW 1/4 of Sec 6, Tws 8, Range 6). The purchase of this and the two contiguous tracts south of it is not found recorded but the probate of his estate shows he owned the land, which likely was acquired in the 1850s upon the arrival from South Carolina. On January 1, 1859, G.W. Masters also purchased two 80-acre tracts immediately south of his son Benjamin F. Masters' land at the Five Forks a mile west of the Dalrymple Cemetery for a total of 280 acres.
The 40-acre tract immediately south of Dalrymple Cemetery (SW 1/4 of Sec 6, Tws 8, R6) lies on the south side of the road and on both sides of Shoal Creek, and the other contiguous 40-acre tract adjoins the west side of that (SE 1/4 of SE 1/4 Sec 1, Tws 8, R5).
The Dalrymple Cemetery is on the north side of what is now County Rd 359 (some maps say Dalrymple Cemetery Rd) just east of County Rd 348 (road to Hopewell). The original Masters home stood on the south side of the Road 359 (Dalrymple Rd), across the road from the cemetery and just a little west of the County Road 348 intersection. The house site is demarked by a stand of old trees just west of a newer house.

He was a delegate from Hopewell Baptist Church in Anderson Co., S.C., to the Saluda Baptist Association 1836-1853 until he moved to DeKalb County, Alabama about 1853.
