He was born March 14, 1931, to Lemuel Burton and Myrtle (Bolin) Burton in Somerset, Ky. He married Helen (Eaton) Burton on Feb. 1, 1963, and she preceded him in death Sept. 5, 2009.
Survivors include son, Richard Smith and wife, Janie, of Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Debbie Freeman, of Indianapolis; daughter-in-law, Missy Smith, of Shelbyville; grandchildren: Troy and Meghan Smith; Matthew Freeman and companion, Reyna Hernandez; Cynthia and Dale Gragg; Philip Burnett and wife, Ashley; and Errick Freeman; six great-grandchildren; five great-greatgrandchildren; brother, Junior Burton of Russell Springs, Ky.; and sister, Josephine Holmes of Melbourne, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, James Smith; daughter, Kathy Smith; grandchild, Trinkle Gragg; three sisters; and three brothers.
Mr. Burton worked at Freudenberg NOK until he retired in 1994.
He was a member of Grace Wesleyan Church.
He enjoyed gardening and playing euchre.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service & Crematory, 703 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Harvey Weaver officiating.
Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Shelbyville.
