The above birth year is based on his age of 81 given in an 1832 document.

Polipas was the son of John Austin and his first wife Mary Sweet of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. He was married on 14 December 1779 to Abigail NORTHUP, the daughter of _______ and Elizabeth Northup (the father's name was lost from the original record). He appears on the 1777 census in N. Kingstown, RI under the name Pollipus, on the 1790 census in N. Kingstown with name of Polopus, and on the 1830 census in S. Kingstown under the name transcribed as Pollygus.

He called himself 81 years old on 5 September 1832 when he made application in Washington Co., RI for a pension for his Revolutionary War service with the RI Line.

He was buried the week of 17 December 1837, but the location of his burial was not recorded. However, since he lived in North Kingstown or neighboring S. Kingstown his entire life, he almost certainly occupies one of the 80 or so known graves marked by field stones in the Sweet-Austin Cemetery where his parents and many other relatives are buried.
