George Lyons, age 50, a longtime resident of Steele and well known, passed away Tuesday night in a St. Louis hospital as he suffered a second stroke of paralysis. He was at the hospital to be treated for cancer and although he had been in very poor health for several months, news of his death was a shock to many friends here.

With affliction overtaking him, he was a friendly character about town, always loyal to his friends, his Masonic lodge, he Baptist church and political party. He was a charter member and Past Patron of Steele O.E.S. No. 330. He was not hesitant to do one a favor or an errand, as the publisher of this paper should testify and your thanks and friendship was all that was expected. He was rather ardent in many viewpoints but respective of his friends who differed with him.

Funeral and burial services are being held today (Thursday) at Oran, Mo., his former home. Services were in charge of Rev. A.B. Sadler, Steele A.F.&A.M. No. 634. Among those attending were Mr. and Mrs. D. Callens, Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Howard, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Overturf, Mrs. J.F. Patterson, Messrs. I.K. Northcutt, N. Koury, Gus Wade, H.E. Doerner, and H. Ballentine.
