Herman M. ‘Herm' Knab Sr.

Herman M. "Herm" Knab Sr., 83, Duncansville, died Wednesday at UPMC Altoona after a battle with mesothelioma.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Nepomuck and Maria (Lehner) Knab. He married Greta Larson on June 16, 1956, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Herman "Marty" Jr. and wife, Cassia, of Dallas, Texas; a grandson, I. Victor Knab of Rowlett, Texas; a sister, Rose Reece of Hollidaysburg; a brother, Edward and wife, Betty, of Altoona; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Mary, Caroline and Elizabeth; and two brothers: Joe and Harold.
Herm served in the Korean War as an Army engineer. He was a jack-of-all-trades, an avid hunter and a member of the Bavarian Aid Society.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery, where a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014. Entombment will be at Alto-Reste Park Cemetery.
