He married Sarah Crane, daughter of Jonathan Crane and Deborah Griswold.

Nathaniel Hibbard (Hebert on the tombstone) was born January 20, 1680 at Wenham, Essex County, Massachusetts to Robert Hibbard Jr. and Mary Walden Hibbard. He was a soldier (sergeant) and land owner. He married Sarah Crane April 16, 1702 at Windham County, Connecticut and their children were: Nathaniel II, Samuel, Anne, Deborah, Jonathan, Nathaniel (again), Paul, Zebulon, Sarah, Elisha and Gideon. Forty-five year old Nathaniel died April 26, 1725 at Windham, Windham County, Connecticut and is buried in the Palmertown Cemetery, Scotland, Windham County, Connecticut.
