Helen Eicher Underwood, age 92, a resident of Magnolia Springs, AL since 1942 passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014.
Helen was born in Ithaca, Michigan on March 21, 1921. Her family moved to Alabama when she was 12 years old.
Mrs. Underwood was an avid reader, talented artist and a wonderful cook. During raising of her three sons she was a surrogate mother to her son's friends who would often be around at mealtime. Such was the custom of mothers in Magnolia Springs.
Preceded in death by her husband Claude Underwood, parents; Daniel and Lena Eicher, son Dennis Underwood, brothers; Norman Eicher, Raymond Eicher, Robert Eicher, sisters; June Warren, and Ethel Haynes.
Survivors include her children, Kenneth D. (Helen) Underwood , Gary Underwood both of Magnolis Springs, AL, daughter-in-law; Sharon Underwood, brother; Eugene Eicher of Aurora, CO, sisters; Esther Koehn of Livingston, CA, Jane Lipscomb of Magnolia Springs, AL, nine grandchildren; Carrie Underwood , Kenneth D. Underwood, II, Indie Bowman, Chad (Lisa) Underwood, Tamara (Archie) Ford, Brandi Kinsey, Phillip (Kimberly) Underwood, Kendra (Chris) Hunter, Johnathan Underwood, sixteen great grandchildren, sixty four nieces and nephews, many other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held from Swift Presbyterian Church, 23208 Swift Church Road, Foley, AL , Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral service. Interment will follow in Swift Church Cemetery.
