The funeral for Ruth Lois Pommitt, age 87, will be at 1:00 PM Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ted Kuschel officiating. Burial will be in Blackbear Cemetery.

Ruth was born to John and Frances (Kimmell) Allen on August 26, 1926, in Garber, and passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014, in Enid.

Ruth graduated from Garber High School, and then attended O.S.U. In 1947, she married J.C. Pommitt, and they made their home in rural Garber. Ruth was a country school teacher, and also worked at several banks. They lived in Oolagah and later in Ponca City, where they were caretakers at Ponca Lake. They also lived in Perry before moving to Enid. Ruth was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she taught adult Sunday School. She was an ombudsman at local nursing homes and an officer with VFW Auxiliary. Before J.C.'s death in 2005, they enjoyed traveling the United States and loved fishing. Ruth was an accomplished artist, both in ceramics and painting, oil, pastels, pen and ink, especially painting wildlife and landscapes.

Ruth is survived by her sister Tula Perel of Stillwater, and 26 nieces and nephews, 15 great nieces & nephews, 23 great-great nieces & nephews, and numerous relatives & friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband J.C. and two brothers, John and Sam Allen.

Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Blackbear Cemetery.
