Irene Mary Goblish was born on March 08, 1918, in Henryville Township, Renville County, Minnesota, to Michael Jacob and Rosa Jennie (Serbus) Goblish. She married Stanley Frank Houdek on January 05, 1937, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bechyn, Minnesota.

Following their marriage, Irene and Stanley lived on the Houdek family farm. They raised their 10 children, three sons, Edward, Henry, and Donald; and, their seven daughters, Martha (Schafer), Margaret (Meuhlberg), Marie (Revier), Rita (Healy), Diane (Haney), Dorothy (Elfering), and Rosemary (Woelfel). Marie helped Stanley with the farm work; and, they retired in 1971 and moved into Olivia.

After Stanley died on June 19, 1994, Irene continued to live in her home until the time of her death. She was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church and its CCW. Irene liked to cook, preserve foods and bake, especially pies and kolachies. She enjoyed needle work, gardening, and playing cards.

Marie Mary (Goblish) Houdek died at her home following a lengthy illness. Her funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Olivia; the Reverend Paul van de Crommert officiated. Marie's niece, Monica Kohout, and nephew, Eugene Kohout, were vocalists at the mass. Pallbearers were Jairus Houdek, Jason Healy, Kelly Elfering, Mike Houdek, Jason Schafer, Nick Woelfel, Pat Review, Shane Haney, and Kevin Houdek. Irene was buried in St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery next to her husband, Stanley Frank Houdek.
