George E. (G.E.) Ray, 85, of Route 2, Gilbert, died Thuesday [October 21, 1980] at Rikard Nursing Home in Lexington after a long illness. Born in Barnwell County, he was a son of the late George and Rivina Morris Ray. He was a member of the Living Baptist Church and a retired farmer. Surviving are four sons; Harold Ray of Gilbert, Bobby Ray of Florida, and Charlie Leighton and Howard Ray of West Columbia; four daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Browning of Blackville, Mrs. Louise Rimer of Largo FL, Mrs. Willie Mae Layson of Macon GA, and Mrs. Polly Dorn of Charleston; a sister, Mrs. Daisy Stuart of Augusta GA; and 37 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Burial in Baenwell Cemetery, Barnwell. Thompson Funeral Home.
