Ann McCarty, formerly of Des Moines, died February 27th at the age of 97. Born in 1915 in Denmark, she came to Des Moines at the age of five. She lived in Des Moines until she moved to the Atlanta, GA area in 2009 to be near her daughter and family. She lived in an assisted living home and in the last year had moved to the Alzheimer's unit. She was the kindest person whose home was always alive with company. She loved bridge, was active in her church and at the age of 87 went up in her nephew, Bill Yewell's, parachute plane. She worked in the Iowa House of Representatives for many sessions. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russ McCarty and son, Richard McCarty. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Rice of Roswell, GA, her granddaughters, Kelly Groeneveld (Dennis), of Acworth, GA, Lynn Moore (Brett) and two great granddaughters, Brooklyn and Carly Moore, of Woodstock, GA. Her niece, Joan Yewell Wunderle, of Milton, GA was a frequent visitor and care taker, and her brother-in-law, John Madison, to whom she was very close, of Minneapolis, was able to come for her 97th birthday in November. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and wonderful friends. A memorial service will be held in Des Moines Saturday, June 29th at 10:30 AM at Highland Park Lutheran Church.
