The son of Sarah Anna Mangnall and George Albert Stanton, he was born April 2, 1908, in Numa, Iowa. On December 22, 1936, in LaGrange, he married Mary Louise Upright who survives. Also surviving is one son, Gary Stanton of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Shelley and Jim Stanton of Lancaster: and other relatives including, Mary Alice Stanton, Mrs. L.P. Anesi, Mrs. E.J. Pickett and Kathryn Stockham.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Madge Thompson and Ora Anderson.
Mr. Stanton was reared in Numa, Iowa and was a graduate of the Numa High School. He worked in the coal mines in that area for a number of years. Later he was employed in construction and worked with Cameron and Joyce Construction Company. For the past 20 years, he was part owner of the Stanton Construction Company in Lancaster.
Mr. Stanton had been a resident of Kirksville since 1956.
He was a member of the Numa Methodist Church and the International Union of Operating engineers No.515.
Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Thursday afternoon ( April 5, 1984 ) in the Chapel of Davis-Playle Funeral Home. The Rev. Glen Lochhead of Lancaster, will conduct the services. Music will be provided by Charles ("Bud") Reese, singing, "How Great Thou Art" and "Precious Memories." He will be accompanied by Maxine Eshlager, Burial will be in Maple Hills Cemetery.
Bearers will be Melvin ("Bud") Lancaster, Tom Westfall, Junior Jones, Kenneth Hayes, Mahurn,and Aly Goring.
Honorary Bearers will be: Everett Elsea, Pete Anesi, Dennis Jones and Jim Anesi.
