Janice Rebecca Stacy Shortridge, 73, passed with her family by her side in Vienna, Virginia on Wednesday, January 29, 2014.

She was born June 24, 1940 in Richlands, Virginia. She married Ronald Shortridge and moved to Arlington, Virginia in 1959. She and Ron have two daughters, Debra Lynn Shortridge of Melbourne, Florida, Karen Leigh Shortridge Cole and her husband Rick of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Patrick, Nick, Stacy, Travis and his wife Kristan; and great-granddaughter, Molly.

Janice enjoyed a long career of 40 years with Bank of America, where she retired as a Personal Banker in 2006. Her most treasured accomplishment was her dedication and generosity to her family, children and grandchildren. Janice and her sister, Nancy C. Stacy, who passed away in 2003, cared for their mother, Mary Margaret Helton Stacy and grandfather, Claude Wesley Helton, who lived to be 100. Janice lost her husband, Ron, at an early age of 44, due to kidney failure. She continued to work, support her family and send her daughters to college. She and Ron imparted their love of the outdoors as they spent many vacations at their treasured cabins at Rapidan Family Camps, in Madison County, Virginia.

She will be missed by her family and friends, and special checkers and card player, her grandson, Nick and dog, Rocky. We celebrate her life and the impact and love she imparted to her family.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 2, 2014 at Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff, Virginia with Rev. Gerald Stacy officiating. Burial will follow in the Hankins Cemetery in Richlands, Virginia. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends after 1:00 P.M. on Sunday.
