Ethel Mae Matteson, 91, formerly of Hatchery Rd, Corry, Pa, died on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at the Corry Manor where she had been a resident. She was born on February 10, 1922, in Wheelertown, Pa, a daughter of the late William and Nellie St John Hoag. Ethel was raised and educated in Union City and attended Union City High School. After her marriage to Rodney C "Pete" Matteson on August, 12, 1941, in Corry, her main priority was raising and caring for her family. She enjoyed doing word search and crossword puzzles, gardening, canning and baking. Ethel's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Ethel was preceded in death on December 23, 1990, by her husband, Rodney C "Pete" Matteson; a daughter, Marilyn Culver, a son, Fred Matteson; two sisters, Edith Fox and Esther Devine; three brothers, George, Leonard and Leon Hoag; and a grandson, Ray Nichols. Ethel is survived by four daughters, Betty Rhodes and her husband Chuck of California, Missouri, Kathleen Stahlman of Corry, Pa, Judy Wilcox of Corry, Pa, and Alice Meade of North East, Pa; three sons, John Matteson and his wife Charlene of Erie, Pa, Bob Matteson and his wife Mary of Corry, Pa, and Bill Matteson and his wife Laura of Erie, Pa; a son-in-law, Tad Culver of North East, Pa; and a sister, Edna Smith of Erie, Pa. She is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call at the Bracken Funeral Home, 315 N Center St, Corry, Pa, and attend the funeral service there on Tuesday at 11 am. Rev William Beatty, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, Corry, will officiate. Burial will be in Wattsburg Cemetery, Wattsburg, Pa.
