Marie Elizabeth Bafus was the youngest of 5 children born to George and Katherine Bafus, who were Volga German immigrants that arrived at Ellis Island USA in 1913, in order to escape the Russian Revolution. Marie was born in Camas, WA on August 22, 1925. In 1927, the family moved to an 80 acre farm near Camas, WA. Marie grew up here, helping with the farm work as she grew into a young woman.

In 1943, Marie began working at Crown Zellerbach's paper mill, ultimately as a payroll administrator at the Camas WA facility. She met the love of her life, Harry Cleo Laney, at the paper mill. He was the IBM repair man who frequently came by to work on her key punch machine. After about a year long courtship, they married on Feb. 14, 1955.

Very shortly after their marriage, IBM transferred Harry and Marie to Sacramento, California where they began raising a family of 3 children. The 1st of the three to be born was Byron. They remained in Sacramento for 9 months while Harry completed an assignment to replace an old and outdated computer system with a brand new high tech network for the California Employment Development Department. After this project ended for the CA EDD, another transfer was ordered for a move to Southern California. After this move, their two girls would soon be on their way. Jennifer arrived in 1957 and Lorene was born in 1959. Harry and Marie were transferred a total of four times, and finally settled down in Camarillo, CA in 1960.

Harry retired from IBM in 1975. They sold the Camarillo family home in 1976 and began pursuing their dream of traveling around the country in their travel trailer. Soon after their travels began, they decided to upgrade the travel trailer to a more modern motorhome. They wore out a total of four RV's during their 20 year full time RVing adventure. Marie loved the RV lifestyle so much that she demanded she never be placed in a care facility if she ever fell terminally ill. She passed away in the motorhome on April 24, 1996. She is buried beside Harry at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vancouver Washington. Marie is best known for her caring and sweet disposition and one who lived a Godly life.
