ARLINGTON, VA Freda A. (Eyster) Jennings, 92, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014, at Virginia Hospital Center. She was the wife of the late Jack P. Jennings, who passed away on June 25, 2000. The couple had been married for fifty-six years. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, at St. Paul's Wolf's Evangelical Covenant Church, 4501 Wolf's Church Road, York, with the Rev. Richard Benner officiating. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Road, York, is in charge of the arrangements. Born on April 28, 1921, in North Codorus Township, she was the daughter of the late Seymour G. and Annie N. (Bentz) Eyster. She had two brothers, a twin, Frederick C. Eyster, and Gordon E. Eyster; and a sister, Norma M. (Eyster) Hale, all of whom preceded her in death. Freda graduated from West York Area High School and worked for a local bank. The family moved to McLean, Va., in the late 1950s, where she began a twenty-five year career in the Fairfax County Schools food service program, eventually managing operations at several locations. She received several awards for her exemplary work and dedication to her staff. She and her husband retired to York in 1985, where she provided primary care to her mother and other family members. She returned to Virginia in 2008, to live near her son and his family. Freda was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Wolf's E.C.C. (formerly U.C.C.) in York, and a member of Bethel U.C.C. in Arlington, Va., where she was active in the Women's Guild and teaching Sunday School. She was an excellent cook, having learned her Pennsylvania Dutch recipes from her mother, and loved cooking for family and friends. Mrs. Jennings is survived by her only son, Jack P. Jennings, II of Arlington, Va. and his wife, Lucy; three grandchildren, Matthew, Michael, and Laura; and many loving members of the Eyster and Bergdoll families. The family requests that memorial contributions be made in the name of Freda A. Jennings to Chesterbrook Residences Continuing Care Fund, 2030 Westmoreland St., Falls Church, VA, 22043.
