Celia Reger Simon was my great great grandmother.

She was born in Lewis Co, VA/WVA in 1816, the daughter of Abram Reger and Lean Anne Brake Reger.

Celia married George Simon on March 9, 1837. Six children were born from this union: Letha Elizabeth, Jacob Elam (my great grandfather), Permelia Rebecca, Abram Reger, Mary and John.

Her father, Abram Reger (1795-1883), an officer in the War of 1812, was the son of John Reger and Elizabeth West. Her mother, Leah Anne Brake (1795-1835), was the daughter of Jacob Brake (1753-1831) and Mary Slaughter (1755-1830).

The Reger and Brake families are very well researched in the areas of Hardy, Upshur, Harrison and Lewis counties VA/WVA.

Celia came from a large family, having the following siblings:

1. Jacob Brake Reger (married Phoebe Cool)

2. Rev. John West Reger (married Rebecca Anne Brown)

3. Albert Gallatin Reger (married Mary Rebecca Seay/Sea)

4. Elizabeth Reger Pickins (married George Pickins)

5. Rev. Alfred Alphaeus Reger (married Francis Ludington)

6. Abram Reger (married Elizabeth McCoy)

7. Rebecca Ann Reger Seay/Sea (married Thomas Seay/Sea)

8. Leah Brake Reger Post (married Stephen Post)

Celia's mother died just 8 days after giving birth to sister, Leah.

Celia's brother, Rev. John Reger, was "converted at a Methodist camp meeting" near the present site of Reger Church. This present Reger Church is the 4th church now standing on land donated by the Reger family (in 1810). It was through John Reger's effort, that the Methodist-Episcopal Seminary was located at Buckhannon, WVA and still stands today, now known as West Virginia Wesleyan College. John considered this "the crowning act of his life".

Celia's parents are both buried at Old Heavener Cemetery located @ Buckhannon, Upshur Co, WVA.

During the 1870 census, both Celia & George were living at North Salem Township, Linn Co, MO, along with sons Jacob & Abram. After years of research on this family, I believe both were dead by 1873 and buried in Linn Co, MO.
