Hawthorne, J. H. who lives on Lookout Mountain 2 miles from Collinsville was killed at Collinsville on Monday (May 5) by the train known as the Cannon Ball. He leaves a wife and 4 small Children.

James Henry Hawthorne was born February 14, 1829, in South Carolina.
James Henry Hawthorne died May 6, 1890 in a train accident in Collinsville, at age 61 years. It was told that he heard one train coming and moved over to the other track, not knowing that a train was also coming from the other direction. His youngest child, Grover, was 11 days old at the time of his father's death. He is buried at Mt. Lookout Cemetery in Cherokee County.
