The Appleton Family constructed a large set of under ground burial vaults on conjoined Lots 2744 and 2745; the entrance to which is covered by three feet of earth and sod. The Gothic Revival monument of local brownstone is inscribes with some, but not all of the names of those entombed.
John S. Appleton was entombed in the family vaults 28 March 1860; his name does not appear on the brownstone monument.
