Claude was born in about 1626. He is the son of Jacques Bouchard and Noelle or Nicole Touschard or Bouchard.

Claude arrived in Quebec in 1650. He signed a marriage contract with Louise Gagne on 30 November 1653 and was a nuptial blessing on 25 May 1654 given by Father Paul Ragueneau, at the home of Louis Gagne (Louise's father). The recording of the marriage in the Notre-Dame parish records looks like it says 1659. They are the parents of the following (verified with PRDH):

Per http://www.petiteriviere.com:
"A native of St-Côme-de-Vair in France, Claude Bouchard , known as Petit Claude [le Petit Claude], was the first farmer to whom Monsignor de Laval granted, in 1675, land in the current territory of Petite-Rivière-St-François. The following year, Sieur Bouchard moved to his farm and thus became the founder of Petite-Rivière-St-François."

Per "Our French-Canadian Ancestors" by Thomas J. Laforest, Vol III, Pg 37:
On 30 July 1657 the Bouchards signed a 6-year lease on the farm at Saint-Charles of Cap Tourmente. He also took a land grant on 4 December 1657, for four arpents of frontage near la Fripone at Cap Tourment. He was able to prepay his rents for 1658-1660.

"On 18 June 1661, the Mohawks Iroquois began terrorizing the region. They descended on Claude's farm too. At the same time, his father-in-law Louis Gagne mysteriously disappeared from the land of the living. Shocked beyond belief, Claude and his family departed the area in haste. On 6 October, 1661, Letardif noted that the said Bouchart has been constrained to depart and abandon the Saint-Charles farm... and to set himself up at Chateau-Richer, which he did, following the orders of Monsieur d'Argenson, acting for the Governor..."

He continued to farm and build up his properties throughout his life.
