David Kurtz, Sr., 78, former foreman at the Dryfus Packing company, died at the family residence, 2904 South Street, at 10:15 o'clock Sunday morning. Mr. Kurtz was born in this city on January 16, 1859, and married Mary Kimball, who died in 1902. He later married Pauline Mast. He was a member of the Congress Street Methodist church.

Surviving are the wife; a daughter. Mrs. Grace Fowler, of Orlando, Florida; three sons: Robert, of Lafayette, and Capt. David Kurtz, Jr., of the Lafayette fire department; and Merle, of El Paso, Texas; two stepdaughters: Mrs. John Kummings, of Chicago; and Mrs. Emma Ruger, of this city; five stepsons: George, of Seattle, Wash.; Fred, of Bloomington, 111.; William, of Mattoon, 111.; and Rudy and Walter, of this city; four sisters: Mrs. Rose McCormick and Mrs. Nettie Morehouse, of Lafayette Route 10; Mrs. Anna Kron, of St.
Petersburg, Fla.; and Mrs. Fannie Tea, of this city; and a brother, Harvey, of Little Rock, Ark.
