LAKE MILLS, Iowa — Funeral services and Mass of Christian Burial for Rita L. Schissel, 88, of Lake Mills, formerly of Davenport, will be 11 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 422 E. 10th St., Davenport. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until Mass time Friday at the church. Rita died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.

Rita Louise Koch was born Feb. 21, 1925, in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Alma (Huber) Koch. She was united in marriage to Neil L. Schissel on June 16, 1947, at St. John Church in Fort Atkinson. Neil preceded her in death Jan. 21, 1994.

Rita had been an active member of Sacred Heart Cathedral for over 50 years prior to moving to Lake Mills. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling, gardening and playing bridge.

Memorials may be made to Central Community Circle Food Pantry in Davenport or to Alzheimer research.

Those left to honor her memory include her children and their spouses, John and Eileen Schissel of Fertile, Iowa, James and Lisa Schissel of Urbandale, Iowa, and Louise and Larry Bock of Sumter, S.C.; six grandchildren, Jason (Megan Watson) Schissel, Jenna Schissel, Thomas Bock, Lora Bock, Captain Alan Bock, USMC, and Ken Bock; two stepgrandchildren, Brett Majors and Chris (Meredith) Majors; and one great-grandson, Finnian Schissel.

In addition to her parents, husband and all her siblings, she was preceded in death by her son, Robert Schissel in 1981. May they rest in peace.
