Imelda V. (Lacasse) Benoit, 98, of Chicopee, formerly of Southbridge, died peacefully on Monday, Jan. 20th, in her home after a brief illness.

Her husband, Arthur Benoit, died in 1972.

She leaves a son, Arthur L.A. Benoit and his wife Jeanne of Chicopee; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two sons, Roger E. Benoit in 1970 and Ronald R. Benoit in 2006, and a daughter, Jacqueline A. St. Laurent in 1997.

She was also predeceased by a brother, Gerard Lacasse and a sister, Rose Alda Benoit.

She was born in Southbridge the daughter of Origene and Roseanna (Gaudette) Lacasse.

Imelda lived in Southbridge for most of her life, moving to Chicopee in 1998. Imelda was a member of the former Sacred Heart Church in Southbridge and it's Ladies of St. Anne Sodality. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing crafts, especially plastic canvas crafts. She also enjoyed doing puzzle books. Imelda was an avid professional wrestling fan and an avid Boston Red Sox fan.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, Jan. 24th, from the Daniel T. Morrill Funeral Home, 130 Hamilton St., Southbridge, with a Mass at 10am in St. Mary's Church, 263 Hamilton St., Southbridge. Burial will be in Old Notre Dame Cemetery, Southbridge. Calling hours in the funeral home will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23rd, from 5:00 to 8:00pm. www.morrillfuneralhome.com
