Carl W. Ahrendts, 73, formerly of S. Hancock Street, Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday at the Riverstreet Manor Nursing Home.
Born on June 12, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late John and Edna May Ahrendts. He was a 1949 graduate of GAR High School and Girard College, Philadelphia. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and prior to his retirement in 1992, was employed as a machinist for Valley Manufacturing.
He was a member of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Wilkes-Barre, where he was past president of the church council, the Fidelity Lodge 655 F. & A.M., Irem Temple AAONMS, the Past Master's Club of Irem Temple Shrine, Lodge Council Chapter Consistory and a life member of the Girard College Alumni Association.
He was preceded in death by brothers, John Ahrendts, Lt. Luther A. Ahrendts, USN and sister, Edna Ahrendts.
Surviving are sisters, Marguerite Mazanec of Levonia, NJ; and Hilda Griffiths of Wilkes-Barre; nieces, Jaret Straub of Wilkes-Barre Twp.; and Kit Griffiths of Wilkes-Barre; great-niece, Jill Straub and great-nephew, David Straub, both of Wilkes-Bane Twp.. There are also three nephews and six great-nieces and great-nephews in Florida.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Straub-Kane Funeral Home, 55 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with the Rev. Mary Laufer, pastor of St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre.
Friends may call Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of services. Masonic services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Hancock Street, Wilkes-Bare, PA 18702.
