Raymond Ray Adams Jr., age 70, passed away at 7:20 a.m. Sunday January 19, 2014 at his home following an illness.
Ray was born October 2, 1943 in Joplin, MO. Born to Raymond and Dorothy (Heald) Adams, he was raised by his grandparents W.F. and Dovie Adams.
He was a lifetime resident of Galena.
Ray graduated from Galena High School with the Class of 1961.
He worked 28 years for the Frisco and later B&N Railroad as a brakeman and a conductor. He retired in 1994.
Baseball and softball was a passion for many years, influencing a lot of youth during the nearly three decades he coached baseball. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Ray was married to Eileen Mae Carver on October 14, 1977 in Joplin, MO. She survives.
Additional survivors include three sons, John Adams (wife, Shelley), Galena, KS, Kevin Adams (wife, Vickie) Rogersville, MO, and Bradley Adams, Galena, KS; one step-son, Paul Martin, Miami, OK; two sisters, Gloria "Snooks" Moore, Kansas City, MO, and Linda Miller, Mablevale, AR; 10 grandchildren and a host of special relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rayna Young.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Rev. J. W. Stephenson will officiate.
Burial will be in Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena, KS.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the funeral home.
