John J. Townsend, 80, 656 Jefferson Avenue, Peru, died at 12:15 p.m. Monday, August 20, at his residence from complications from dementia.

Mr. Townsend was born on August 12, 1921, in Miami County, to John Langer and Mable Townsend. He was raised by his beloved grandparents Charles M. and Rosetta Mae Chambers Townsend in Peru.

He was a lifelong resident of Peru, and he was formerly employed at Kuepper Favor Company and BERKO electric. He was a World War Ii veteran in the United States Army.

Mr. Townsend is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home. Pastor Stephen Baines will officiate. There is no visitation.

He was cremated on August 22, 2001 by the Hoosier Crematory in Akron, Indiana and burial of ashes will be at Shrock Cemetery, Miami County. Further arranges are being handled by Flowers Leedy.

He was a devoted and cherished family member.
