He was born October 25, 1915 in Bern, Idaho to Ezra Louie and Vilda Dustin Kunz. He was the third child of eight.
He married Velta Brooksby on April 9, 1946 in the Salt Lake City Temple. She passed away on October 28, 2004. He then married Ruth Reich Nelson on June 17, 2005 in Sandy, Utah.
He served in the Army during WWII. He spent two years in Italy servicing machine guns on bombers.
Herb worked at the Dream Mine in Spanish Fork for many years. He was employed as a carpenter and maintenance supervisor at Fort Douglas for over thirty years.
He kept bees and supplied family and friends with honey for many years. He also had walnut and fruit trees in his yard and spent many winter hours cracking walnuts.
After his retirement, he and Velta spent several winters in Arizona or St. George enjoying the warmer weather.
He was a member of the LDS Church and served in many church positions over the years.
Survived by spouse, Ruth Reich Nelson Kunz; sons, Neldon, Floyd, and Kevin; daughters-in-law; seven grandchildren; three great-grandsons; brothers, Marlon E. and Loyal; and Ruth's eleven children and their families. Preceded in death by: parents; wife, Velta; brothers, Ivan, Everett, and David; sisters, Thekla and Berniece; infant daughter, Eldene; and granddaughter, Jennifer Kunz Murray.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. in the Fairoaks Ward Chapel, 586 East 8400 South. There will be a viewing held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Goff Mortuary, 8090 South State Street (100 East), and again Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the services.
Interment: Sandy City Cemetery.
