Little is known about Jesse. He is clearly identified in his father's deeds and will, and on his tombstone, but documentation is scarce, though his daugther Mary's obituary describes him as "one of the best known men in Bedford."

His grandson writes about him as the father of Elizabeth West Anderson, husband of Elizabeth West Jones, son of Nelson Anderson, and grandson of William P. Anderson, but then proceeds to talk about all his relations rather than him.

Jesse married Elizabeth West Jones, daughter of John Jones and Frances Barber Jones (no relation). From the Marriage Bonds of Bedford County, Virginia, 1755-1800, published 1932, we have: Jesse Anderson and Elizabeth Jones, June 21, 1791. Thomas Johnson, surety. Consent of John Jones, father of Elizabeth.

Jesse died young, in 1818 at the age of 51, just a month after his mother died, and two years before his father passed, but not before raising a large family. At the time of his death, his eldest was 24 years old and his youngest just 1. Three of his daughters would marry within a year after his death. His grandson Nathaniel Bedford Floyd (1826-1921), named a son after him, Jesse Anderson Floyd (1868-1912).

We visited the final resting place of Jesse, perhaps the first descendants to do so in decades, in the summer of 2003 and again in the winter of 2004. The large markers for Jesse and Elizabeth were found in almost illegible condition, but after rubbing crayon on paper over them, we were able to discern very clear inscriptions. We did not find any other tombstones as we had hoped. We hope a subsequent visit will provide more information. We understand that the Bedford Museum has records indicating there are four unmarked graves there also, two of which are Jesse's parents. We did see a a pile of rocks with a wooden cross sticking out, but unsure of it's significance.

Documented list of children (in order by age): John N. Anderson, Ann J. T. Anderson, Mary Lightfoot Anderson, Elizabeth West Anderson, Almira Lewis Anderson, Charles Dandridge Anderson, Sarah Anderson, Paulina H. Anderson, and Robert Spotswood Anderson. There is also the possibility of an infant who died young, namely a Jesse Anderson born and died in 1806.
