On April 10, 1941, Mrs. Magadalena Vos, the widow of Reinhard Vos, was called by death at the age of 77 years. She was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth (Schwikart) Schmid who were pioneer settlers in Victoria and Minnetrista Townships. She was a charter member and officer of St. Mary's Church Mothers for 45 years. For the last 15 years of her life, she made her home with her daughter, Rose VOS Ehrlichmann. She was the mother of nine children, 50 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Magdelan Vos Passes Away After Lingering Illness

The many friends of Mrs. Magdelan Vos, widow of the deceased Rhinard Vos, since November 3, 1918, were grieved to hear of the death Thursday, April 10.

Mrs. Vos, a prominent resident of this community and well known pioneer of this section, would have reached her 77th birthday, April 27th.

She was the daughter of Joe Schmid and Elizabeth Schwikart and was born in Victoria, Minnesota in 1864 and where she spent her early youth. Her marriage to Rhinard Vos occurred July 8, 1883. To this union nine children were born. The following survive: Mrs. Catherine Meyer, Belle Plaine; Mrs. Lena Gruidl, Minneapolis; Elmer Vos, Walnut Grove, California; Mrs. Rose Ehrlichman, Mrs. Elizabeth Ebnet, Joseph, George Vos and Thomas Vos all of Holdingford. One daughter, Mrs. Marie Krekelberg of Buffalo, Minnesota, preceded her in death. She also leaves fifty great grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters (no sisters listed): Frank Schmid, Avon; Henry Schmid, St. Cloud; and Joseph Schmid, Excelsior. She was preceded in death by sisters, Mrs. E. Leuthard, Chokio (sic); Mrs. M. Schmeig, Victoria; and brother, Thomas Schmid , Chokio.

Mrs. Vos spent the past fifteen years at the home of her youngest daughter, Mrs. Rose Ehrlichman, where she remains were held until funeral services Monday at 9:00 o'clock in St. Mary's Church. She also was a member of the Christian Mother's Society for the past forty-five years.

Six grandchildren served as pallbearers: Ben Meyer, Belle Plaine, Robert Ehrlichman, Norbert Vos Herbert Vos, Roman Ebnet and Joseph Ebnet.

The honorary pallbearers were Mrs. Theodore Muyres, Mrs. Joseph Zeis, Mrs. Adam Ebnet, Mrs. John Neuwirth, Mrs. Lena Rolfes and Mrs. Otto J. Stein.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Matthias Butals and interment was made in St. Mary's Cemetery

Many friends and relatives attended the services and paid their final tribute to a woman whose death has taken a beloved person from this community.

People from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Leuthard, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Leuthard, John Leuthard, Mrs. Mary Fuchs, Mrs. Ella Helspar and Lucius Schmid of Chokio; Mr. and Mrs. John Meyer and children, Marie and Ben Meyer and Mrs. Dennis Hottinger, Belle Plaine; Theodore Vos, Mr. and Mrs. R. Gruidl and Mr. and Mrs. George Folta, Minneapolis; L. Vos, Cologne; Henry Schmid, St. Cloud; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schmid and Mrs. A. Welle and daughter, Avon; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Michaels and Mrs. John Muyres, Freeport; Roman Ebnet and Miss Sophia Klasen, St. Paul; Miss Leola Vos, Red Wing; Miss Lauella Ehrlichman, Austin; Mr. and Mrs. Al Schaefer, Cold Spring; and Mr. and Mrs. Damon Heisick, Swanville.

The Brenny Funeral Home had charge of the funeral arrangements.
