Mills River Section Man Will Be Given Burial 11 A.M. Friday
S. J. Whitaker, 81, retired farmer of the North Mills River section, died at his home there last night (December 29, 1943) at 11:45 o'clock.
Funeral services will be held at the Mills River Baptist Church on Friday morning at 11 o'clock with the Rev. N. A. Milton in charge of the services. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers and burial will be in the Mountain View cemetery.
Mr. Whitaker was a native of Henderson County, the son of the late Solomon nd Dicie Owenby Whitaker. He is survived by seven daughters, Mrs. J. T. Davenport, Mrs. H. V. Owen, Mrs. J. J. Hedden, Mrs. Albert W. Orr, and Miss Sue Whitaker, all of Mills River; Mrs. Melvin Snyder of Fletcher, and Mrs. R. E. Edmundson of Salisbury; and seven sons, Tom, Will, R. K., and Edgar Whitaker, of Mills River, O. M. Whitaker of Candler; F. E. Whitaker, of Bent Creek; and George Whitker of Asheville.
Two brothers, J. L. Whitaker of Mulberry, Fla., and King Whitaker of Asheville, and three sisters, Mrs. John Carland of Greensboro; Mrs. Julia Galloway and Mrs. Julius Barton of Brevard; 36 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren also survive.
