Mrs. Eliza J. Stauffer, who was in feeble health for several years and confined to her bed for the past three months, died at the home of her son, C. C. Stauffer, fours miles east of Olsburg last Saturday morning, April 2, at 8 o’clock. Nearly all of the surviving members of her family were at the bedside when the end came.
Eliza J. Culler was born in Connellsville, Pa., Jan. 1, 1837, where she passed a happy childhood. She united with the church early in life and maintained her faith and hope through all the years, and gave a most beautiful testimony in her complete resignation to the will of God during the last days of illness.
In December 1853, Miss Culler was married to Henry O. Stauffer. Of this union eleven children were born, seven girls and four boys, of whom nine children survive the parents, namely, Miss Ella Stauffer, Mrs. H. L. Gard, Mrs. B. O. Klapp, Mrs. John T. Bartley, Mrs. N. W. Price, Chris, John, Harry and George Stauffer.
Mr. and Mrs. Stauffer came to Kansas in 1867 and settled first in Nemaha County, and located near Fostoria in 1889, where they lived happily in the enjoyment of many friends. Mr. Stauffer died in Manhattan eleven year ago. The funeral services were conducted by Rey Klutz of the Olsburg Methodist church, and Rev. Shaw of the Fostoria U. B. church last Sunday afternoon, April 3, at the C. C. Stauffer home, where a large number of neighbors and old friends gathered to express sympathy and comfort the bereaved members of the family. Interment was made in the Olsburg cemetery.—Olsburg Gazette.
