Patrick Gorham, formerly a miner in Prescott, Arizona, became a Sheriff's Deputy in Superior,Arizona, along with "Montana" Joe Hardwick, also from the Prescott area. On March 5, 1920, Hardwick saved Gorham's life in Superior. On their way to serve a warrant to Jose Sierra, they were met by a woman running down the street, being chased by Sierra, with a gun. Sierra turned the gun on Deputy Gorham, but was shot and killed by Deputy Hardwick before he could fire.
Patrick was a well known and respected Peace Officer in the Superior area for most of the 1920s and 1930s. He married Mollie Elizabeth Westfall, of Casa Grand, Arizona. They had eleven children. Mollie died Dec. 8, 1989 in Florence, Pinal Co., Arizona. They are considered one of the pioneer families of Superior.
