According to family stories, he was the sweetheart of Martha Vestal and fathered a child by her named Alexander Vestal. He later became blind. DNA from two of Alexander's descendants have proven his father was a Swaim through the line of John and Charity. See the Swaim family DNA website.

Between Michael Swaim of Yadkin County and Pettis B. Swaim.
The said Michael Swaim in consideration of the covenant doth
covenant and agree to and with the said P.B. Swaim that he
shall have Three Hundred and Forty Four Acres of land shown
in deed, if he shall stay with me while I live and keep me wood and
tend to my stock and matters.
P.B. Swaim in consideration of the covenant on the part of the party
of the first part doth covenant and agree to and with the said Michael Swaim
that I will do the best I can for him on the matters stated.
