Michael settled in the northeastern part of Wrentham on land that is now in Franklin. He built his homestead on Summer street, and there his children were all born. His house was owned in 1894 by George Haywood. His brother, Timothy Metcalf settled near him and the house he occupied was standing in 1894 at the corner of King & Union streets.
Michael was a yeoman, and followed the trade of cooper for a time. He was an original member of the Wrentham church, and was one of 5 members to apprehend David Pond for his conduct in pitching the music too high during the church service of Feb. 18, 1738/39. He was chosen with Jonathan Wright as a ruling elder March 8, 1738/39.
