In the 1830s Henry Wootan's parents, Henry and Ann, moved from Fairfield County, South Carolina to Perry County, Alabama. About 1840 they relocated to Pickens County, Alabama, where their son Henry was born on March 7, 1841. (Henry's first name began with a "C"; however the first name is unknown.) Henry grew up in Pickens County and, at age 20, he joined the Confederate States Army. He was later captured and held as a prisoner of war. Henry returned to Alabama after the surrender and married soon thereafter.

Marriage: Jan. 25, 1866 to Mary Elizabeth Thurza HULL at New Hope Church, in Providence, Pickens County, Alabama
