Bessie C. Burd, 90, of Karns City died at 6:10 p.m. Sunday at Chicora Medical Center.
Born Aug. 1, 1914, in Concord Township, she was the daughter of James Henderson Christie and Dora Adeline Bartley Christie.
She was a registered nurse and retired as a major in the Army Nurses Corps.
Mrs. Burd was a member of the Concord Presbyterian Church in Hooker, where she was an elder and a member of the missionary society. She also was a member of the North Washington Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a life member of the Retired Officers Association and the Retired Army Nurse Corps Association.
Surviving are two sisters, Anna Daugherty of Butler and Pearl C. Grossman, with whom she made her home; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward H. Burd, who died Dec. 24, 1963; two sisters; and four brothers.
BURD - Friends of Bessie C. Burd, who died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. Visitation also will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Concord Presbyterian Church, where services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Mathias officiating. Burial will be at Concord Cemetery.
