George was born in IL; married Julia Ann Lee on Nov. 20, 1867. He had served in the CW as a musician. They had a son John in IL, later moved to NE where a daughter Theodora was born, later moved to CA. On June 30 George and a partner were traveling in Anaheim mending gasoline stoves when their horse took fright at a colt running loose on the street. The partner sprang from the wagon and caught the horse but it broke away almost colliding with several vehicles. George was thrown to the ground unconscious. When he regained consciousness, he was taken to a room nearby and made comfortable. He was more badly hurt than realized and had much blood oozing from an ear and was acting irrational. George declared he was not badly hurt but word received in Anaheim indicated he was acting queerly and thought to be insane. He died on July 8 from the effects of a fracture at the base of the brain.
